Living Well with Parkinson’s Starts with the Right Support
Parkinson’s disease can affect movement, balance, posture, thinking, and everyday activities—but with the right therapy approach, people with Parkinson’s can continue to live active, independent, and meaningful lives.
At Habit Project Physical & Occupational Therapy, we offer a specialized Parkinson’s Disease Program that integrates occupational therapy and physical therapy, delivered by clinicians trained in LSVT BIG and PWR! Moves. Our goal is to help individuals with Parkinson’s move better, feel more confident, and maintain independence in daily life.
-
Parkinson’s affects more than just walking—it impacts how you move through your day, perform daily tasks, and interact with your environment. That’s why our program intentionally combines occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT).
Physical Therapy Focus
Our physical therapists address:
Walking quality, speed, and safety
Balance and fall risk reduction
Posture and large-amplitude movement
Turning, transfers, and mobility confidence
Endurance and movement efficiency
Occupational Therapy Focus
Our occupational therapists address:
Daily activities (ADLs) such as dressing, bathing, toileting, and meal preparation
Fine motor skills and hand function
Functional mobility during real-life tasks
Cognitive strategies for attention, sequencing, and safety
Home and environmental safety
Strategies to manage freezing, slowness, and fatigue
Together, OT and PT create a coordinated plan that supports movement and function—because independence depends on both.do.
-
Our therapists are specially trained in two internationally recognized Parkinson’s-specific programs:
LSVT BIG®
LSVT BIG® focuses on:
Large-amplitude movements
Improving walking, posture, and balance
Counteracting the small, slow movements common in Parkinson’s
Carryover of movement strategies into daily activities
PWR! Moves®
PWR! Moves® emphasizes:
Parkinson’s-specific movement patterns
Functional strengthening and mobility
Adaptability across disease stages
Integration into everyday tasks
We don’t follow a one-size-fits-all approach. Your therapy plan is customized using these evidence-based principles to match your stage of Parkinson’s, goals, and daily challenges.
-
Our Parkinson’s Program is delivered in the home environment, allowing therapy to focus on real-life movement and safety where daily activities actually occur.
Benefits of home-based outpatient therapy include:
Practicing walking, transfers, and balance in familiar surroundings
Addressing real home safety risks (tight spaces, rugs, bathrooms, stairs)
Improving carryover into daily routines
Eliminating the stress of travel and transportation
This is outpatient therapy, not home health, designed to support functional independence and long-term success.
-
Our program is appropriate for individuals with Parkinson’s disease who:
Have changes in walking, balance, or posture
Experience freezing, shuffling, or slowed movement
Have difficulty with daily tasks such as dressing or bathing
Have had falls or near-falls
Are newly diagnosed and want proactive care
Want to maintain independence and confidence
Are transitioning after home health or outpatient clinic therapy
Caregivers are encouraged to participate when appropriate to support safety and carryover.
-
